Target, Vineyard Vines team up on new limited edition collaboration for spring

Target will likely have a whale of a time with its latest limited-edition collaboration.

The Minneapolis-based retailer is partnering with Vineyard Vines, the company best known for the smiling pink whale, for a 300-plus-piece line-up that includes home, outdoor and pet goods in addition to apparel, accessories and swimwear.

The items' price range is $2 to $120, though most are under $35, Target announced Thursday. The Vineyard Vines collection launches May 18.

This deal represents some firsts for Vineyard Vines. The company has never done tablewear and games before, for example, Target said.

“Vineyard Vines is a brand that our guests know and love, and one that exemplifies our shared sense of optimism and joy through their use of bold colors and prints,” Mark Tritton, Target's executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, said in a statement. The merchandise is "meant to bring people together, whether it’s for a shared meal with friends or a family trip to the beach," he added.

Target has done similar limited-edition collaborations with well-known companies, including TOMS, Lilly Pulitzer, Hunter and Marimekko.

Brothers Shep and Ian Murray founded Vineyard Vines in 1998 and took inspirations from summers they spent on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. The company now has more than 100 freestanding stores and its merchandise is also sold in over 600 specialty and department stores.
