Tarleton thumps Hounds 41-6

Sep. 17—STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Redshirt freshman quarterback Beau Allen threw for two touchdowns and ran for another on Saturday night, and FCS and former Lone Star Conference member Tarleton State thumped Eastern New Mexico University 41-6 in a game shown nationally on ESPN-plus.

The Texans (2-1), now members of the Western Athletic Conference after leaving the LSC in 2020.

Sophomore kicker Cooper Hamilton provided ENMU (1-2) with its only points on a pair of field goals, including a 50-yarder in the opening stanza that pulled the Hounds to 7-3. So far this season, the left-footed Hamilton has gone 5-for-5 on PAT attempts and 4-for-4 on field goals.

The Texans, though, thoroughly controlled the game, piling up 473 yards — including 312 passing by Allen — while holding the Hounds to 113 net yards. They harried ENMU junior QB Kason Martin all night, holding him to just 7-of-33 passing for 55 yards.

Junior wide receiver Jaden Smith was Allen's favorite target with seven catches for 129 yards and a touchdown.

ENMU returns to LSC action on Saturday with a game at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
