Tarrant County reports most COVID deaths in nearly 2 weeks, more than 1,500 new cases

Tarrant County reported 25 COVID-19 deaths and 1,564 new cases on Thursday.

It’s the most COVID-related deaths since 27 were reported on Sept. 4.

The latest pandemic-related deaths include a Fort Worth woman in her 20s, a Forest Hill woman in her 30s, a Fort Worth man in his 40s, a Grand Prairie man in his 40s, a woman in her 50s in rural Tarrant County, a Fort Worth man in his 50s, a Richland Hills man in his 50s, two Mansfield women in their 60s, four Fort Worth women in their 60s, a Saginaw man in his 60s, a Crowley man in his 70s, two Fort Worth men and a woman in their 70s, a man in his 70s in rural Tarrant County, a Haltom City man and woman in their 70s, a Fort Worth woman in her 80s, a woman in her 80s from rural Tarrant County, a Haltom City woman in her 80s, and a Fort Worth man older than 90.

One of the 25 did not have underlying health conditions, according to officials.

The county has reported 331,091 COVID-19 cases, including 4,072 deaths and an estimated 293,618 recoveries.

COVID-19 hospitalizations

Hospitalized COVID patients decreased by 28 to 1,155. The pandemic high was 1,528 on Jan. 6.

COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased to 24% from 25% of the total number of beds in Tarrant County and make up 27% of the 4,294 occupied beds. The rate was at a pandemic-high 38% on Jan. 10.

Confirmed COVID patients decreased to 21.52% from 22.21% of all available hospital beds in the North Central Texas Trauma Region, which includes 45 counties (divided into three regions).

Hospital beds

Tarrant County’s hospital bed occupancy increased to 90% from 89%, according to county data. Available hospital beds decreased by two to 493. The pandemic low was 382 on Tuesday.

ICU beds

Adult ICU bed occupancy decreased to 95% from 96%. The pandemic high was 99% on Dec. 28. Ventilator use increased by six to 373. Patients are using 47% of the 793 ventilators in the county.

Positivity rate

The COVID-19 testing positivity rate for Tarrant County increased to 22.51% from 22.47% in the latest available seven-day average data. The rate was last at a pandemic-high 30% on Jan. 7.

Vaccination data

According to Texas Department of State Health Services, 65.50% of Tarrant County residents 12 or older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 56.87% of residents 12 or older have been fully vaccinated.

DSHS also reports that 86.69% of Tarrant residents 65 or older have received at least one dose, and 79.98% of residents 65 or older have been fully vaccinated.

More than 70.25% of Texas residents 12 or older have received at least one dose, according to DSHS. Fully vaccinated Texas residents 12 or older are at 59.47%.

Tarrant County officials are offering free COVID-19 vaccines and testing at locations throughout the area.
