Tarte CEO buys Longboat Key mansion for $9M, biggest real estate sale in Manatee this year

A home that sold for $3.6 million in 2006 and $4.8 million in 2021, recently sold for $9,450,000, making it the largest residential sale of the year, so far, on Longboat Key.

The 4,820-square-foot home at 6877 Gulf of Mexico Drive is in the Manatee County portion of Longboat Key.

David Liberatore, the listing agent with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, declined to name the seller or buyer.

But, according to the deed filing with the Manatee County Clerk of Court’s office, the seller was Todd Lee Borck and the buyer was 6877 Gulf of Mexico LLC.

The new owner’s principal address is 133 Lowe St., Tavernier in the Florida Keys, according to the State of Florida’s Sunbiz website.

The owner of the property at 133 Lowe St. is listed as the Maureen Kelly Irrevocable Trust with Scott McDonough and Michael Kelly as managers, as first reported by the Observer newspaper.

Maureen Kelly is the founder and CEO of Tarte Cosmetics. McDonough is the general manager of Tarte Cosmetics.

The Longboat Key property was on the market for 436 days before selling, Liberatore said.

When the Longboat Key property first went on the market it wasn’t ready for listing and needed numerous upgrades, he said.

“By the time we came to market the frenzy was over,” Liberatore said of pandemic-induced buying in the first two years of COVID-19.

In addition to a complete renovation inside and out, including new hurricane-impact windows and sliders, as well as a redesigned kitchen, and new driveway, Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate kept the listing fresh with stagings and new videos and photos.

The four-bedroom, four-bath home with a private pool and two-story vaulted windows in the main living area, was built in 1998 on a three-quarter acre lot with 102 feet on the Gulf of Mexico.

“With no pedestrian access or easements on either side of the property, this beachfront oasis offers complete privacy and tranquility,” the listing said.

Liberatore has been selling real estate for four years, and said this was his largest transaction to date. His first sale was of a $200,000 property.
