🌱 Tarzana Trash Woes + Art Room To Open At 908 S. Olive Street

Morning, Los Angeles, and happy National Marzipan Day! Here's everything you need to know to get this Wednesday started off right.

Labor shortages are affecting trash pickup in Tarzana. Also, downtown L.A. is getting a new restaurant with an artistic twist. Finally, you could own the home of actor Michael York for about $7 million.

First, today's weather:

Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 77 Low: 56.

Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. Tarzana neighbors are having a tough time getting their trash picked up. We learned Monday that L.A. Sanitation and Environment is aware of the issue but cannot do much about it because of a worker shortage. "COVID has impacted us, we have about 15% of our employees right now out because of COVID," a representative explained. The company will work Saturday to catch up. (ABC)

  2. The Art Room plans to open toward the end of March at 908 South Olive Street in Downtown. It is the brainchild of Los Angeles Chef D. Brandon Walker. This venue will be “a hybrid café, restaurant, and gallery space” taking up 3,500 square feet. Initial operations will focus on grab-and-go meals, with summer paving the way for dinner service. (LA Eater)

  3. The Hollywood Hills home of actor Michael York is on the market. Famous for his role in Logan’s Run and other films, he now lives in Minnesota. York bought the double-lot property above Sunset Boulevard in 1976. As of Monday, it is listed for almost $7 million. (The Hollywood Reporter)

  4. L.A. nurses spoke out Tuesday against the state’s plan to let COVID-19-positive health care workers continue working. With staffing shortages creating problems for the health care sector, hospital operators are eyeing this solution if employees are “asymptomatic and wearing N95 masks.” Nurses argue that this practice “puts patients and workers at risk.” (KTLA)

  5. Crime statistics released Tuesday show that Los Angeles had 397 murders in 2021. It made 2021 “the deadliest year since 2007” when the LAPD had 395 murders. Police Chief Michel Moore blames gun usage for the increase in deaths. (XTown)
