Tascosa four-star prospect Avion Carter announces commitment to Texas Christian University

Tascosa standout defensive lineman Avion Carter announced Sunday morning via his personal social media that he has committed to play collegiately at Texas Christian University.

"Committed!!!," he wrote Sunday, while also tagging the official TCU football account along with head coach Sonny Dykes and defensive line coach JaMarkus McFarland in the Tweet,

The Class of 2023 consensus four-star prospect, whose verbal commitment is non-binding, is set to take his talents to Fort Worth at the end of his senior year. He will join recent Tascosa graduate and former teammate Major Everhart, who also elected to play for the Horned Frogs.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound rising senior is ranked No. 91 on the ESPN 300 recruiting website and totaled 55 tackles, seven tackles for loss and eight sacks last fall for the Rebels.

Carter was named the District 2-5A Defensive Player of the Year for his on-field performance during his junior campaign. In his final season, Carter is expected to lead the Tascosa defense once again with his pass rushing prowess and ability to disrupt an opposing team's backfield.

Carter joins North Mesquite wide receiver Cordale Russell as the second four-star prospect in the Class of 2023 to sign with the Horned Frogs.

TCU head coach Sonny Dykes, who was hired last November to replace Gary Patterson, is building his program with an infusion of talent from across Texas with eight of nine current ’23 commits hailing from the Lone Star State.
