Taskmaster series 16 spoilers follow.

Taskmaster contestant Sam Campbell has opened up about Susan Wokoma's hilarious response to the 'mischief' task in last night's episode (September 28).

In the episode, the contestants were challenged to do the following: "Make mischief. Most mischievous wins. You have a maximum of half an hour."

All took very different approaches, but Susan decided to prank another contestant with a fake task by having Alex Horne direct him to an envelope with the initials 'SW' embossed onto the seal instead of the usual 'TM'.

Sam was the unlucky receiver of Susan's envelope and – oblivious to her initials on the seal – continued to follow her directions and perform the task in the tiny downstairs toilet of the Taskmaster house.

Over the course of 20 minutes, the crew would slide photos of mice and fish under the door and through the window, to which Sam had to stand up and shout 'mice' anytime he saw or heard a mouse and sit down and whisper 'fish' whenever he saw or heard a fish. There were also related props in the bathroom towel dispenser and cupboards.

He was told the winner would be the contestant with the "most fish and mice seen and heard" by the end of the allotted time.

As he became more competitive, Sam even grabbed the task card and drew some fish on it, so that he could add more of them to his tally.

Discussing the prank with series 9 winner Ed Gamble on the official Taskmaster podcast, Sam agreed with Ed's suggestion that it was "one of the best things anyone has ever done in the history of Taskmaster".

"She had her own custom seal," he said, to which Ed replied: "Custom seal, which you didn't notice! You just popped open the task. And you tried really hard at the task... you even started drawing your own fish and mice!"

"I did some of my cheap tricks, as you call 'em, yeah," Sam added.

Although Ed said he felt Sam should have received some points for completing the task, Sam seemed less sure and pointed out that he "fell for it".

"But you're not gonna walk into every task and go, 'Susan Wokoma's set this, I'm not gonna do it', otherwise you'd get no points for the whole series," Ed continued.

"You got presented with your task, you did it to the best of your ability, which you did very very well. I feel like you should have got at least two bonus points for completing a task that no-one else completed."

Going on to share what Susan's prank taught him, Sam shared: "So much of this kind of thing will happen, where something means so much to you, and then you find out that it actually didn't mean anything, but then you realise it did mean something – 'cause we are the ones that assign meaning".

After Ed chimed in and asked if it made him feel "philosophical", Sam replied: "Sort of... I still did it and I still felt it... yeah, you can't get too hung up on, 'This means this and this means that... this is important to me'. And then later you realise, you're like 'What the hell?'"

When the task was played back to the contestants in the studio, Alex pointed out that when you take the letters from the words mice and fish together, they form an anagram of the word mischief, to which Sam exclaimed: "How deep does this go, Wokoma?!"

Susan shared a screengrab from that moment in the episode on her Instagram page, and had just one word to reference a task response which earned her five points from Greg Davies: "MWAHAHAHAHA."

Taskmaster series 16 airs and streams on Thursday nights at 9pm on Channel 4, where you can also stream previous series.
