Taste of Havana opens rum bar
Sep. 8—LENOIR — The Taste of Havana, a Cuban-style restaurant in downtown Lenoir, has recently added a new rum bar.
On Friday, Sept. 2, nearly three months after relocating, the Rum Bar officially opened in the downstairs area of the restaurant.
"I'm very excited to have a separate space to accommodate a new rum bar in addition to what we had before," said Iris Bender, owner of Taste of Havana. "We want people to have a good time."
The Rum Bar is located on the lower level of the restaurant and can be accessed from Church Street or the main floor. The Rum Bar serves a limited menu including appetizers, sandwiches, and desserts such as vanilla and chocolate tres leches cakes, churros, mango guava cheesecake, key lime pie, and flan. The drink menu includes 10 draft beer varieties, mojitos, Cuba libre, lime daiquiris, and piña coladas.
The Rum Bar has quickly become a popular hot spot in downtown Lenoir.
"We've had several people come in that were new to us that just visited us this past week," Iris said. "And we had a lot of our regulars who've come to our new space, and they love the bar."
Iris hopes to offer a laid-back, friendly bar atmosphere.
"The bar atmosphere is different than a regular space," she said. "You can come out and sit with friends for a couple hours, enjoy snacks and a light meal and a few drinks. You can't really do that in a regular restaurant. A bar is more of hang out place, and that's what I want the bar to be."

Iris and her staff appreciate the community for their continued support.
"Thank you everybody who's come out and supported our new space," said Iris. "We had a great dinner crowd both upstairs and downstairs. It was a really great weekend."
The bar is open Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 8:30 p.m.
Taste of Havana is currently hiring in all positions, including wait staff, kitchen staff, and bar staff.
