Jan. 21—Taste of Italy is returning to Mayfield Heights on Feb 10. It marks the return of the event for the first time since COVID forced a hiatus.
According to Mayfield Heights Council President Donald Manno, the event was highly attended in years past.
"It's the first time back since COVID and the destruction of the old community building," Manno said. "It's a big event every year and a very well attended event every year. It's very worthwhile because we get a lot of positive comments from people. It's one of the bigger events we throw as a city. We offer a lot of prizes and good food."
According to a post on the city's website, the Taste of Italy Italian Dinner will feature pasta, meatballs, sausage, chicken cutlets, appetizer plates and a pastry table. Raffle baskets with a 50/50 raffle will also be taking place throughout the night.
One feature of the party that Manno says is always popular is the homemade wine contest. Participants make their own wine, and a panel of judges will decide who wins.
"It's been going on for years," Manno said. "The money raised is sometimes used by the recreation department for the community building or to fund some of the other things we do for parks and recreation.
"Whatever you can do to offset the budgets we try and do, that's where any of the proceeds for this goes, right back in so we can provide bigger and better things for everybody."
Tickets for the event are $50 per person. Deadline to purchase is Feb. 2 or when tickets are sold out. Tickets are available at the Aquatic and Community Center weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and can also be purchased by calling 440-442-2627.
The deadline to bring homemade wine to the Recreation Department is also Feb. 2.
