From Tatonut to hidden gems, these are my favorite donut shops on the Mississippi Coast
There are few food items that bring quite as much joy as the doughnut.
It’s the perfect creation. A combination of baked bread, sweets and and incredible versatility have made the doughnut an incredibly popular breakfast and snack option.
And the Mississippi Coast does not lack for doughnuts.
The known brands are here, like Krispy Kreme and Shipley’s, but the area is also home to many local establishments. Here are some of those locally owned doughnut shops that you should put on your to-try list.
Tatonut Donut Shop
Tatonut in Ocean Springs is one of the most popular, well-reviewed doughnut shops on the Coast. You can get a wide variety by the dozen, or grab a specialty doughnut or even custom order.
“Best Donuts on the Coast!! No other place compares!!” one Pascagoula Yelp reviewer said.
King Donut
Located in Waveland and Long Beach, King Donut has a sprawling collection of doughnuts, cinnamon rolls and jelly-filled delights. They also offer kolaches, biscuits and croissants.
“Love their fresh cinnamon rolls and jalapeño cheese sausage kolaches,” a Long Beach reviewer said.
Fantasy Donuts
Sitting along Dedeaux Road in Gulfport, Fantasy Donuts is a bit of a hidden gem. It’s a simple, no-flash shop, but it’s been my personal favorite since arriving on the Coast. When I order a dozen doughnuts, they always stuff the box with extras at no charge. Is this the bias-in-journalism everyone keeps talking about? Yes.
There’s also a location on Pass Road!
The Donut Shop
Originating from Natchez, The Donut Shop has drawn rave reviews since opening in Gulfport. The shop offers fun specialty flavors outside of the traditional options, like butterfinger and maple bacon.
“Absolutely the best donuts ever. We were staying in Ocean Springs and drove to this place because we knew their parent location in Natchez and it was just as good if not better,” a Yelp reviewer said.
Delicious Donuts
The Pascagoula doughnut shop is a popular spot in Jackson County to get the baked treats. Found on 14th street, Delicious Donuts offers the full suite of baked breakfast with bagels, kolaches and croissants available.
“Fresh and good tasting donuts. Hot dog rolls were amazing too. The jalapeño cheese dog was the best. Nice and friendly customer service. Would recommend this donut shop!! The blueberry old fashioned was a favorite,” a Yelp reviewer said.
