Tattoo studio has designs on Main Street site in Metuchen

METUCHEN - Another tattoo studio is looking to open in the borough.

An application by Classic Tattoo Club LLC is scheduled to be heard at 7:45 p.m. July 14 before the Planning Board/Zoning Board of Adjustment to locate the studio at 327 Main St., according to a public notice.

The applicant is seeking a use variance to operate in a business zone, the proposed Metuchen Arts District.

Classic Tattoo Club is a high-end tattoo studio specializing in custom drawn artwork, according to the public notice.

The club, owned and operated by tattoo artist Mike Riveley, specializes in traditional Japanese and American tattoos but also works on different styles and in both small and large designs, according to the company's website.

If approved this will be the second tattoo studio to move into the borough in recent months.

Last month a grand opening was held for Iron & Pine Tattoo Co., located at 279 Central Ave. That tattoo studio was founded by Shawn Hannon and Carol Jacky to create an open and comfortable environment that welcomes anyone that walks through the front door of their tattoo shop, according to the company's website.

"They chose to open shop in Metuchen, NJ because they love how the town embraces and supports art. They are thrilled to have the opportunity to show everyone in this town and others around it that tattooing is a beautiful form of art and expression," the website states.
