Who is the Taunton Daily Gazette Player of the Week for Sept. 19-24
TAUNTON— The final week of the first month of Greater Taunton area high school sports is here.
Bridgewater-Raynham golf's Justin Peters carried a hot streak into last week with three straight showings at or below par while Bristol-Plymouth boys cross country stayed undefeated with a win over West Bridgewater, Bridgewater-Raynham field hockey rolled past Brockton, Taunton volleyball put up a tough fight against Hockomock leaders Attleboro, Dighton-Rehoboth volleyball swept Seekonk and Taunton's Brayden Cali and Bridgewater-Raynham's James Murray and Sydney O'Donnell medaled at the Ocean State XC Invitational down in Warwick.
Bristol-Plymouth girls soccer's Ashleigh Genander was voted the Taunton Daily Gazette Player of the Week for Sept. 12-17, her second straight week receiving the honor, after receiving 50% of the vote. Taunton girls cross country's Colby Dunham came in second with 26% of the vote while Bristol-Plymouth volleyball's Amanda Hull came in third with seven percent.
As always, there were standout players for each team who helped guide their team to success last week, but only one can be named the Player of the Week.
Now it's time to make your pick for the Taunton Daily Gazette Player of the Week for Sept. 19-24, with polls open through noon Sunday and votes limited to one vote per device per hour.
BOYS SOCCER
Javonte Fernandes, Taunton
Fernandes had a goal and two assists against Mansfield.
Aiden Steele, Bristol-Plymouth
Steele scored a pair of goals against Diman.
GIRLS SOCCER
Hayleigh Porter, Taunton
Porter made 22 saves against Franklin.
Lily Ford, Bridgewater-Raynham
Ford had a pair of assists against Dennis-Yarmouth.
Brooke Drass, Bristol-Plymouth
Drass made 12 saves against Diman.
Kelsey Palmer, Dighton-Rehoboth
Palmer scored a goal against New Bedford.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Brayden Cali, Taunton
Cali finished 28th out of 200 with a time of 17:34 in the Boys Varsity- Large School 5K at the Ocean State XC Invitational.
James Murray, Bridgewater-Raynham
Murray finished 26th out of 200 with a time of 17:33.7 in the Boys Varsity- Large School 5K at the Ocean State XC Invitational.
Danny Keefe, Bristol-Plymouth
Keefe finished second with a time of 17:06 against West Bridgewater.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Emersyn DePonte, Taunton
DePonte finished 86th out of 155 with a time of 23:00 in the Girls Varsity- Large School 5K at the Ocean State XC Invitational.
Sydney O'Donnell, Bridgewater-Raynham
O'Donnell finished 30th out of 155 with a time of 21:08 in the Girls Varsity- Large School 5K at the Ocean State XC Invitational.
Nicole Widegren, Bristol-Plymouth
Widegren finished third with a time of 21:21 against West Bridgewater.
FIELD HOCKEY
Jasmine Lucier, Taunton
Lucier made four saves against Mansfield.
Allie Silverman, Bridgewater-Raynham
Silverman recorded a hat trick against Brockton.
Karina Bosco, Dighton-Rehoboth
Bosco had a goal and an assist against Bourne.
GOLF
Sean Murphy, Taunton
Murphy shot a 44 (+8) against New Bedford.
Justin Peters, Bridgewater-Raynham
Peters shot a 35 (-1) against Brockton.
Connor Woodman, Bristol-Plymouth
Woodman won his match against Diman.
Charlie Rosa, Dighton-Rehoboth
Rosa shot a 38 (+2) against Seekonk.
VOLLEYBALL
Hayley Krockta, Taunton
Krockta had 14 kills and a block against Mansfield.
Nina Savino, Bridgewater-Raynham
Savino performed well against Brockton.
Victoria Rego, Bristol-Plymouth
Rego had six assists, a kill and went 29-for-30 at the serving line with 11 aces against Southeastern.
Bethany Griffin, Dighton-Rehoboth
Griffin had three kills, four assists and two aces against Seekonk.
