Taunton Public Schools is hiring, and for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, they're holding their annual job fair.

The school department is hiring teachers, as well as para-professionals, student monitors, substitute teachers and custodians, according to Human Resources Executive Director Cheryl Butts.

She said it's a "very competitive" market right now, and the job fair is intended to attract applicants from "all fields" and upcoming college graduates.

Triple threat: Bastis brothers continue to make their mark on Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk

A trio of brothers have been major contributors to the Dighton-Rehoboth/Seekonk hockey team.

Boosting the Falcon Warriors are the Bastis brothers: senior forward and captain Noah, junior goalie Sam, and freshman forward Adam.

They say they've enjoyed every second of their time on the ice.

"It’s a lot of fun," Noah Bastis said. "We’ve got a great group of kids that always want to be here and put the work in so it’s a hell of a time for everyone on the team. We love coming here every day, it’s so much fun."

T.G.I. Fridays in Taunton abruptly closes its doors for good

Located at Mozzone Boulevard since 2008, T.G.I. Fridays' Taunton location has closed its doors.

Signs posted on the front door of the restaurant said that it had closed down, effective Feb. 20.

Although the Gazette was able to confirm with staff that Fridays had closed, tracking down a reason for the closure was another matter.

Taunton teens hone skills, forge friendships at new Old Colony YMCA basketball league

The new Old Colony YMCA basketball league is a place where local teens can improve their skills on the court, but also find new friends.

Old Colony YMCA Membership Program Director Stephen Perakslis said the league is a safe place for players to hone their skills. And it's free of charge.

Taunton High School student Jayden Lopes, 17, said he and his friends joined the Old Colony YMCA's new teen basketball league because they already play the game regularly at the YMCA.

"I hope to gain at least a couple of new friendships and have some good bonds with them," he said.

Raynham's new public safety building delayed...again...maybe indefinitely

Raynham is going to be waiting a long time for a new public safety complex.

In addition to the time the town has already spent waiting.

Officials expressed hope last year the town would break ground on the proposed $30.5 million building on King Philip Street — next door to the Lions Club and directly across the street from the senior center — this spring.

However, as of this writing, it appears that the project is delayed, indefinitely.
