A 33-year-old former Taunton man who attempted to break into two homes before pulling a look alike pellet gun on police in an apparent attempt to commit "suicide by cop" was convicted of a litany of crimes and sentenced to serve up to a decade in prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said. Serge Andre was convicted in Fall River Superior Court of assault and battery on a police officer with attempt to disarm, assault with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of an accident, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and two counts of attempted breaking and entering, Quinn said in a written statement.

In real estate news, the top-selling property in Taunton last week was an updated, sprawling Colonial on Jenny Lane, with gleaming wood floors, a newly updated kitchen and bathrooms, and a primary ensuite that not only has a bathroom, but boasts a sitting room as well. Bristol County Wine & Spirits in Berkley is a family operation run by folks with a history of knowing how to do business.

Co-owner Tom George's dad used to run Weir Fruit in Taunton, and now George and his wife Kristen have begun their own business in Berkley, selling wine and spirits.

Now that they've had their grand opening, they're looking forward to the holiday season.

“My wife and I are excited to have a business in our town and to serve our community the best we can,” George said.

Which Taunton employees made the most in 2021? Here are the top 10 salaries

In 2021, the highest earning Taunton city employees came from the police, fire and school departments, according to an analysis of salaries by the Taunton Daily Gazette.

Counting all full-time, part-time and temporary positions, Taunton had 2,100 employees in 2021.

Local runners qualify for tournament; baseball, softball planners commit to colleges

There was exciting sports news this past week for some Taunton area athletes.

First up, Taunton's Emersyn DePonte, Bridgewater-Raynham's Camden Strandberg, Bristol-Plymouth's Wyatt Lee and Dighton-Rehoboth's Lindsay Allard are all competing in the MIAA Cross Country State Championships this weekend in Fort Devens.

Taunton area baseball and softball players also put pen to paper and made college commitments.

As Taunton Athletic Director Mark Ottavianelli put it, if this past springs' state championship titles for baseball and softball were them ascending to the throne, Monday was the coronation for some of their brightest stars.

Now they're planning the next parts of their journeys.
