Taunton's new pay-by-the-pound thrift store wants to make Christmas thriftier with raffle

TAUNTON — 'Tis the season to be charitable, and Taunton Bins thrift store has a neat raffle contest underway.

Through Sunday, Nov. 19, by 10 a.m., the business is accepting nominations on social media, whether your own or a name you submit on someone’s behalf, for a chance to win a free Christmas tree and decorations.

“A big reason I wanted to open the Taunton Bins was to make everyday items extremely affordable for all. With inflation, just about everything we need has gone up in price, even Christmas trees!” said Michaela Keene, owner of Taunton Bins, in a recent Facebook post, adding she wants to give away a tree and decorations to someone needing and deserving this year.

Taunton Bins, located at 24 Weir St., opened back in July of this year and is an annex of Taunton Thrift, right next door.

Taunton Bins offers pay-by-the-pound pricing

Taunton Bins differs by offering a pay-by-the-pound price model for shopping on a budget.  Prices per pound are $2 on Friday and $1 on Saturday.

What does Taunton Bins sell?

“We have everything imagined,” said Keene, who has clothing, shoes, electronics, house décor, kitchen supplies and miscellaneous items people can hunt for in the stores many giant full bins.

Taunton Bins is open the first and third weekends of the month, Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

How the raffle works

Contestants for the Christmas Tree raffle can submit names through Taunton Bins' Facebook Page, specifically its post about the raffle. The live drawing for the raffle will occur on Facebook Live at noon on Sunday, Nov. 19.

When the winner hears their name announced they can contact Michaela Keene either through Facebook Messenger or at 774-712-8412.
