GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Tax filing season is underway, which also means scams are in full effect. The IRS Criminal Investigations reported that $5.5 million was lost to tax fraud last year.

There are many ways to be scammed, so be sure to look out for scammers calling and emailing you. The IRS only communicates via mail. And if your identity is stolen, you can get an identity protection pin from the IRS by clicking here. They send you a new pin every year, and you can use that pin to file your taxes.
