Taylor County voters just finished with a round of early voting May 3.

They'll be back to voting Monday.

Democratic and Republican runoff elections are scheduled for May 24, with early voting beginning this week but going only through Friday.

Among the most watched races are two in the Republican party.

Land Commissioner George P. Bush is challenging incumbent Attorney General Ken Paxton. Paxton won 43% of the primary vote, not enough to secure his party's nomination in a four-candidate field. Bush was second with 23% of the vote.

To take Bush's place, eight Republicans filed.

The top vote-getter was Dawn Buckingham, who has represented District 24 in the Texas Senate. That sprawling district included most of Taylor County.

She won 42% of the vote, with Tim Westley finishing a distant second with 15%.

There also is a runoff for a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission, with incumbent Wayne Christian taking 47% of the primary. He faces Sarah Stogner, who was second with 15%.

Democrats will vote for a lieutenant governor selection, between Mike Collier (42%) and Michelle Beckley (30%). The winner will face incumbent Republican Dan Patrick.

There also is a runoff for AG, pitting Democrat Rochelle Mercedes Garza (43%) against Joe Jaworski (20%).

Democrat Janet Dudding (46.3%) faces Angel Luis Vega (34.5%) for comptroller. Republican incumbent Glenn Hegar easily won renomination.

There are no contested Taylor County races.
