Taylor Hawkins honored at Grammys as Foo Fighters become most-awarded American band in history

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards took a moment to honor legendary Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins during the ceremony Sunday night.

“This was the moment of the show when I was supposed to be introducing the Foo Fighters,” ceremony host Trevor Noah announced somberly. "We would have been celebrating with them as they won three Grammy awards earlier today. But they are, of course, not here due to the tragic passing of their legendary drummer Taylor Hawkins. Our thoughts go out to Taylor's family, his friends, and the Foo Fighter family and all of their fans around the globe."

Hawkins unexpectedly died at the age of 50 on March 25, 2022, just nine days before their scheduled performance at this year's Grammys, where the Foo Fighters won three Grammy awards, officially making them the most-awarded American band in Grammy history with 15 total wins.

Sunday's In Memoriam was also preceded by a highlight reel of Hawkins rocking out. While the band canceled their Grammys appearance altogether “in light of the staggering loss of our brother," they were there in spirit, including onstage when Billie Eilish paid tribute to Hawkins by proudly wearing a shirt emblazoned with his face during her performance.
