Mary Taylor has been named the Artist of the Year for 2020 and 2021 by the San Angelo Art Club.

Taylor began her art training with Roger Allen at San Angelo Central High School. She paints in acrylic and oil in a realistic and painterly style, often working from photographs she takes on her travels.

Taylor is a three-time president of the San Angelo Art Club, a position she currently holds.

The two previous years were combined into one award due to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the SAAC to lose several months of exhibition opportunities.

During a normal year, SAAC members bring in artworks monthly to compete for the opportunity to display at four sites around San Angelo — Bank of San Angelo, 1st Financial Bank, Bank & Trust, and the City Hall Annex. Then one artist is chosen as Artist of the Year.

The judge for this year's show was Dr. Devon Stewart, associate professor at Angelo State University.

The next monthly meeting of the SAAC will be on Monday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Kendall Art Gallery, 119 W. 1st St.
