Is Taylor Swift bigger than ‘Barbie’ in Beaufort County theaters? How to get tickets

It looks like Barbie will have just a little competition in movie theaters soon, as Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour debuts on the big screen.

If you weren’t able to travel to see Swift’s concert live or if you want to relive the experience, Beaufort County theaters will be showing “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” movie starting Oct. 13, with showtimes scheduled through the beginning of November. The show runs two hours and 45 minutes.

Will Taylor be a bigger draw than Barbie?

Based on the response so far, “absolutely,” said Jake Higgins, the owner of Hwy 21 Drive In in Beaufort. “Taylor Swift is almost like a real-life Barbie for some people.”

Higgins said he fully expects the drive-in’s 28 showings to sell out and, if so, it’s possible more dates will be added. Special tour popcorn buckets, cups and other tour merch will be available while supplies last at the drive-in.

“We’re excited for all the Swifties,” Higgins said.

For the chain theaters, however, Barbie has a strong lead.

Wanda Gierhart Fearing, Cinemark’s chief marketing and content officer, called advance ticket sales for Swift’s tour movie “frenzied ... from the moment tickets went on sale.”

However, Fearing said in a news release, the weekend of July 21 when the “Barbie” movie and “Oppenheimer” opened was one of the highest grossing box office weekends in the company’s history.

Swift’s concert tour movie was filmed on the first leg of her sold-out trek across North America.

Tickets for the movie are on sale now.

Theaters are encouraging attendees to wear “Taylor Swift Eras attire” (think sparkles and sequins or floral boho dresses and cowboy boots) as they would to the live concert. Attendees at the live concerts also make friendship bracelets to swap.
