Taylor Swift Directed Her New Music Video for "The Man"

Taylor Swift's newest music video, for her anthemic song "The Man," is almost here — along with the announcement that it was directed by Taylor herself.

The music videos Taylor has made since day one have always been stunning to watch. From "Love Story" and "Bad Blood" to "Delicate" and "Me!", you'd be hard-pressed to find a T-Swift music video that's anything but interesting to watch. And while she's always had some level of creative control over those videos, "The Man" seems to be the first time she'll be a lone director on a music video that isn't made up of previous footage.

Ahead of the premiere of "The Man" music video on Thursday, February 27, Taylor shared a teaser video on Twitter. The clip is very brief and only shows a suited figure, back to the camera, looking out of an office window. As the camera cuts to black, we see the words "The Man music video. Directed by Taylor Swift." In the caption to the tweet, Taylor announced the release time for the music video and another exciting detail: "Oh man...music video tomorrow at 7 A.M. EST! And I’m going to be chatting/answering your questions/mansplaining the video on YouTube starting an hour before at 6 A.M. EST."

The musician does have previous co-directing credits, on videos like "Lover," "You Need to Calm Down," and "ME!" She also solo directed "I'm Only Me When I'm With You," "Christmas Tree Farm," and "The Best Day," though it's worth noting those are comprised primarily of either concert or home movie clips. Fans, meanwhile, are excited for what the director moment might mean for "The Man" music video.

Taylor also shared a different shot of the music video on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday that has Swifties everywhere theorizing. The shot shows a long hallway with 19 hands painted different colors peeking out on both sides. Accompanying the pic is the caption, "There are 19 hands in the hallway but only 2 days until The Man music video." Visually, the shot is pretty cool. But, Taylor's fans think maybe there's more to that shot — and that those hands could belong to the 18 women she referenced in her acceptance speech for the Woman of the Decade award at the Billboard Women in Music event in December 2019.

In her speech at the time, she shouted out artists including Lizzo, Halsey, and Billie Eilish. Plus, she's had big celebs appear in music video before, including the recent music video for "You Need to Calm Down" where Queer Eye's The Fab Five and Katy Perry showed up. Why not have a ton of incredible female artists show up in a song which carries the message of female empowerment?

"The Man" music video drops at 7 a.m. ET/4 a.m. PT on Thursday, but you can enjoy "The Man" lyric video until then:
