Taylor Swift meets the family of fan who died at her concert in Brazil

Taylor Swift met with the family of Ana Clara Benevides, the 23-year-old fan who died following the Nov. 17 Eras tour concert.

Benevides suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest at the concert and was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. In a photo shared on X, Swift is seen sharing a private moment with Benevides‘ family at one of the São Paulo Brazil shows over the weekend. Her loved ones honored her by wearing T-shirts with her face on them. A video posted on social media also shows the family members standing in the VIP section during the show.

This comes nine days after the tragedy that left Swift with a “shattered heart.”

“I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,” Swift wrote on her Instagram stories Nov. 17. “I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”

“I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it,” she continued. “I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”

The concert took place in the midst of a brutal heat wave in Rio de Janeiro. NBC News reports the Civil Police Department of Rio de Janeiro launched an investigation into the concert’s organizer TF4 (Time for Fun), to look into “the crime of endangering the life and health” of concertgoers.

In a statement, TF4 addressed the incident saying Benevides “felt unwell and was promptly attended to” by first responders. The company’s CEO Serafim Abreu also spoke in a Nov. 23 Instagram video admitting that there were “alternative” steps that could have taken because of the heat. Abreu apologized to “all who did not have the best possible experience.”

Swift postponed her Nov. 18 show, citing in an Instagram story, “the extreme temperatures in Rio.” The pop star also wrote, “The safety and well being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first.”
