Taylor Swift has just notched a few more major milestones with Folklore: the pop star's album returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for an eighth non-consecutive week (on the chart dated Oct. 31), and it became the first album to sell a million copies in the U.S. in 2020. Folklore has also now achieved gold and platinum status.

With another 57,000 copies sold in the U.S. in the tracking week ending Oct. 22, Folklore’s total album sales exceed 1 million (to 1.038 million), making it the first album to sell a million copies this year. It’s also the first album released in 2020 to sell a million.

In September, Folklore became the best-selling album of 2020 after spending six consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart. Later that month, Swift also surpassed Whitney Houston for most cumulative weeks at No. 1 by a woman in the Billboard 200 chart. Swift's quarantine album had clocked seven non-consecutive weeks at the top, which gave the singer a career total of 47 weeks ruling the chart. Houston had 46 weeks, and Adele came in third place with 34 weeks.

Swift wrote and recorded Folklore during the COVID-19 pandemic, and she dropped the album on July 24, to the surprise of many fans. Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, of Fun and The National fame, respectively, served as producers on the album, which features 16 tracks ranging between indie-folk, alternative rock, electro-folk, and chamber pop sounds.

Swift scored three People's Choice Awards nominations, which were announced Oct. 1. She is in the running for Female Artist of 2020, Album of 2020 for Folklore, and Soundtrack Song of 2020 for "Only the Young" on Miss Americana.
