Taylorville woman dies after being hit by train

A 48-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when she was hit by a train traveling south of Taylorville.

Crystal L. Bell of Kincaid died Tuesday morning when she hit by a Norfolk Southern train near 1610 West Sangamon Avenue south of the city. Christian County Sheriff Bruce Kettlekamp said that his office received notification of the incident around 7:45 a.m., when they were informed that Bell had been hit by the southbound traveling train.

Bell was pronounced dead at the scene, with Christian County Coroner Amy Winans identifying her as the deceased. Autopsy results are currently awaiting a toxicology report.

The sheriff's and coroner's offices are continuing to investigate the incident.
