Tazewell County Board to upgrade IT services following cyberattack

In the last meeting of 2023, the Tazewell County Board approved a managed information technology services and updates agreement with Heart Technologies Thursday.

According to Tazewell County Board Chairman David Zimmerman, Heart Technologies has existing knowledge of the county’s IT environment through work performed on recent technology upgrades and as the county’s phone service provider.

“The County is in need of procuring services and technology on an emergency basis,” Zimmerman noted in the resolution.

The action authorizes the board to enter into the agreement with Heart Technologies for up to $800,000.

The updated agreement comes less than about a month after a cyberattack targeted the county's phone and email systems. There's been no update on the investigation into the cyberattack.

In other business, the Board:

  • Voted to enter into an internet service agreement with Stratus Networks. The two-year agreement will provide the county with a redundant internet connection at a cost of $14,940 annually.

  • Passed a resolution authorizing a quarterly payment to the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council.
