Tazmanian Tree Devil has nifty tools to get job done
Apr. 13—PLAINFIELD — For local arborist and business owner Edwin Adams, success is earned through hard work, dedication and, most importantly, creative thinking.
Adams persevered through life, growing up in the foster care system in Rhode Island, then serving in the U.S. Air Force and now, being the successful owner of Tazmanian Tree Devil.
Tazmanian Tree Devil is a full- service, fully licensed arborist out of Plainfield, offering tree-trimming, brush chipping, stump grinding and tree removal.
Tazmanian Tree Devil is unique and stands out from other arborists because of its lawn- friendly capabilities and specialty equipment.
Adams' niche equipment, such as his Nifty-Lift, which has a 70-foot reach, also has lawn- friendly tires, so homeowners' lawns will not be damaged, he said.
" We're able to go on nice lawns and keep them looking great," he said.
From stump grinders to his " Dino- Soar" lift with a 92-foot reach, the company's extensive equipment will ensure a quality job from start to finish.
Additionally, Adams said his Taz- Track chipper was custom built for his business by Salsco Co. out of Cheshire.
He's proud to be the only owner of this equipment in the state, which is able to fit through a 3- foot gate to chip up materials.
Although Adams made Tazmanian Tree Devil an official business in 2001, he has been doing tree work himself since the 1980s, coming up with creative, successful advertising strategies along the way.
" From a branch to a tree, drop and leave or drop and clean" and " we show up when we say we will and we do what we say we are going to do. What more can you ask for" are memorable slogans Adams wrote himself for radio advertising, he said.
The name of his business, Tazmanian Tree Devil, comes from the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes character because of Adams' high energy and the drive he has for his business, he explained.
In 2019, he had his first million- dollar year and has been doing extremely well, being able to donate to numerous charities while supporting a staff of six.
"When I was young I was taught that if you ever develop a successful business, you should give back to society," Adams said.
Adams goes above and beyond to care for the safety of his workers, he said, providing his employees with workers' compensation and liability insurance, 401( k) and medical insurance.
Safety equipment beyond Connectiut's standards are also provided to Adams' employees, such as chainsaw pants, chainsaw boots and more.
" I'd like to say I've developed a very well- rounded business with the consideration of customers and employees," Adams said.
Tazmanian Tree Devil is fully licensed and is a member of the Connecticut Tree Protective Association, an accredited business in the Better Business Bureau and recently received the 2020 Super Service Award on Angie's List.
