TBI: Man charged in fatal shooting at Frugal MacDoogal, shootout with Nashville police

Randy Charles Levi, 40, faces charges of homicide and attempted homicide after a man's fatal shooting and a shootout with Nashville police earlier this month, officials said.

Levi was charged upon his release from the hospital on Friday afternoon, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.

Officials believe Levi fought with Robert Scott Meek, a security guard at downtown liquor store Frugal MacDoogal, the night of June 2. The fight started after Levi, who is homeless, created a "disturbance" in the parking lot, TBI said.

Levi then took Meek's gun, fatally shot him with it, fled into the store with the gun and fired at three responding Metro Nashville Police Department officers, according to TBI. Two officers returned fire, according to MNPD.

Body camera footage later released by MNPD showed the officers repeatedly told Levi to drop the weapon and surrender. The footage appeared to capture multiple shots fired before officers subdued Levi, who was wounded in the shooting. No officers were hurt, TBI said.

MNPD said Field Training Officer Trevor Taylor, Officer Blake Curry and Officer Steven Luckey arrived less than three minutes after the shooting. Luckey and Curry are the two who shot at Levi, according to MNPD. It was not immediately clear which shots struck Levi.

Taylor is a five-year MNPD veteran who works in the Central Precinct, police said. Luckey has been on the force for two years and works in the Hermitage Precinct. He was working nearby in the entertainment district that night, according to MNPD. Curry, who works in the Central Precinct, has been with MNPD for 17 months.

All three are on routine administrative assignment while the investigation unfolds. TBI is leading the investigation.

Levi's bond is set at $1,450,000. He is set to appear in court Tuesday, records show.
