TBT brackets released for Wichita State, KU and K-State alumni teams in Wichita regional

The field is set for the Wichita super regional in the upcoming The Basketball Tournament, a $1 million, winner-take-all summer basketball event coming to Koch Arena in July.

Alumni teams from Wichita State, Kansas and Kansas State headline the 16 teams who will be in attendance for two separate eight-team regionals at Koch Arena from July 19-23. Koch Arena will also host a TBT quarterfinal game on Tuesday, July 25.

Wichita State’s alumni team, the AfterShocks, were awarded the No. 1 seed in the same regional as alumni teams from Kansas State, Arkansas, Memphis, Temple and Colorado State. The AfterShocks will begin TBT play against No. 8 seed B1 Ballers at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 20 with the winner advancing to face the winner between Beale Street Boys (Memphis) and Broad Street Birds (Temple) at 8 p.m. Friday, July 21. The regional championship game is slated for 4 p.m. Sunday, July 23.

Session tickets to the TBT Wichita regional games can be purchased through Wichita State’s ticket office or by visiting goshockers.com.

The AfterShocks welcome back returners in Conner Frankamp, Markis McDuffie, Darral Willis, Samajae Haynes-Jones and Tyrus McGee, while making additions in former Shockers in Asbjorn Midtgaard (2017-20), Trey Wade (2019-21) and Alterique Gilbert (2020-21) plus outside additions in center Marcus Lee (Kentucky), forward Jordan Parks (North Carolina Central) and guard Caleb Walker (Nebraska).

Purple & Black, the K-State alumni team, has commitments from former prominent Wildcats like Jacob Pullen, Henry Walker, Kamau Stokes, Thomas Gipson, Marcus Foster and Mike McGuirl. They will face DaGuys STL in their first-round game on July 20 with the winner playing the winner between Team Arkansas and Ram Up (Colorado State) on July 21.

Mass Street, KU’s alumni team, headlines the other regional with former KU stars like Marcus Garrett (2017-21), Tyshawn Taylor (2008-12), Thomas Robinson (2009-12), Jamari Traylor (2012-16), Dedric Lawson (2018-19), Keith Langford (2001-05) and Mario Little (2008-11) committed. Mass Street will play No. 8 seed We Are D3 at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 19 with a potential second-round matchup against Show Me Squad, Missouri’s alumni team, in a second-round game at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 22. The regional championship game for Mass Street’s bracket is at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 23.
