TCL's New 4K TVs Look as Amazing as High-End Televisions—at Half the Cost
Television shopping is the bane of everyone's existence. There's the internal debate over, how many features do I need, what size should I get, and the real kicker, how far into the hole am I going to go so I can ultimately watch reruns of Friends? Well, I’ve been a big fan of TCL's cheap-but-great 4K TVs for awhile now, and good news, the brand has a new line coming out with sweet, cutting-edge tech. And that also means discounts on last year's models.
TCL holds itself to a more consumer-friendly price range while still rivaling fancy televisions from Samsung and Sony in terms of quality. At nearly half of the cost, TCL televisions maintain 4K graphics, HDR capabilities, phenomenal contrast ratios, and impressive frame rates for super crisp movement. That trend continues with its 2019 line of 4K TVs, revealed on Thursday, which includes updates on the stellar 6-Series and 5-Series models, along with a brand-new, high-end 8-Series model.
TCL’s 6-Series in particular is a fan favorite—and a personal favorite. The 6-Series produces a stunning picture that rivals televisions near double its price, with the current generation starting at $499 for a 55-inch and the new generation starting under $600 for a 55-inch. This television genuinely looks like a $1,500 television. While one of the compromises with the 6-Series is its thickness, TCL consistently makes the design work in a way so that its slightly thicker nature blends right in to its surroundings.
The newly announced 6-Series 2019 model further expands on the previous model's “contrast control zone” technology, which works similarly to the LED infrastructure in high-end televisions, allowing for a vast range of colors and really true blacks. TCL says the 2019 model of the 55-inch 6-Series TV will contain 100 contrast control zones, with that number increasing as the television size gets bigger.
And it's a Roku TV; Roku TVs tend to require far less loading time than smart televisions with their own extra bells and whistles. A few notable changes are coming to the Roku remote too, including voice control and customizable streaming buttons, so you can assign services like YouTube, Netflix, and Hulu to whichever buttons you choose.
TCL is also releasing a very budget-conscientious, 2019 iteration of the 5-Series 4K Roku TV with a thin, bevel-less design. While the tech isn't as advanced as that of the 6-Series line, the design is friendly to small spaces—and the cost is friendly to your bank account. Starting at under $300 for sizes ranging from 43-inch to 65-inch, it's a great television for dorms or smaller apartments.
Finally, the 8-Series is TCL’s newest, most expensive line, coming in at $1,999 for the 65-inch and $2,999 for the 75-inch (with larger sizes to come at a later date). These models boast a sophisticated new tech called "quantum contrast." Besides being a fantastic name for a sci-fi villain, "quantum contrast" makes a better gateway for light and color, and uses mini-LED technology to get more brightness variation and a lot more of those contrast control zones. While the 8-Series model is definitely a higher price point, it has a lot of promise.
All the new TCL televisions are coming to retailers before the summer ends. Vague timing, I know. If you can't wait, there’s sure to be sales on the 2018 models in the coming weeks.
