STUART — The long-awaited Costco project is starting to take shape after land clearing began.

Costco Wholesale Corp. got the green light in 2021 to build on the 49-acre South Kanner Highway property. That approval cites 2024 as Costco's estimated completion for a 162,020-square-foot Costco store, an 18-pump gas station, 378 apartments and retail and restaurant space.

However, legal challenges may further delay the process.
