It’s been quite the week for TCU basketball program as Jamie Dixon landed two commitments back-to-back.

The first was three-star combo guard Ashton Simmons. The 6-foot-2 floor general committed to the Horned Frogs on Wednesday over finalists Utah, Wichita State and Grand Canyon.

Simmons stars at West Brook in Beaumont and is rated the No. 197 prospect in the Class of 2024. With athleticism and a background in football, Simmons could develop into a plus defender and offensively creates plays for others.

Then on Thursday four-star center Malick Diallo announced he was joining the TCU recruiting class. Originally from Mali, a country in western Africa, Diallo stars at prep powerhouse Wasatch Academy in Utah.

Listed at 6-10, 240 pounds, Diallo is viewed as a top-150 prospect and top-25 center in the 2024 class. California, BYU and Vanderbilt were among the schools pursuing Diallo.

Another player with athletic upside, Diallo projects to be a productive rim protector that can finish inside with good touches. The two join Micah Robinson as recruits to commit to Dixon and TCU’s recruiting class currently ranks 30th in the country.

Big 12 preseason awards released

That wasn’t the only good news TCU received Thursday as returning forward Emanuel Miller was named preseason All-Big 12 by the league coaches.

The forward was a key piece to last year’s team that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Miller averaged 12.3 and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field and improving his 3-point shooting percentage to 39%.

Kansas big man Hunter Dickinson was named preseason Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Dickinson starred at Michigan last season and is widely considered the best center in the country.

Baylor freshman Ja’Kobe Walter was voted preseason Freshman of the Year. Walter is originally from McKinney and was a five-star prospect in the Class of 2023.
