TCU basketball signs historic recruiting class on National Signing Day

Wednesday, the start of the Early Signing Period for college basketball, was a momentous day for Jamie Dixon and the Horned Frogs.

Dixon signed all four members of the extremely talented 2024 recruiting class that currently ranks just outside the top-10 nationally.

How special is that? Since Dixon arrived in Fort Worth he’s never had a class finish inside the top-25 let alone the top-15. It’s a clearly sign that he has the program moving in the right direction coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

With so many seniors departing next season it was crucial for Dixon to reload the cupboard and Wednesday was the first successful step of doing so. Here’s a look at who signed with the Horned Frogs.

Ashton Simmons

The 6-foot-2 point guard was to first to sign his National Letter Of Intent around 10 a.m. Simmons fits the mold of a two-way guard that can initiate the offense and guard the other team’s best perimeter player. Simmons stars at West Brook in Beaumont and is ranked the No. 204 prospect in the class by 247Sports composite rankings.

During his junior season Simmons led his team in almost every major category. He averaged 17.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists while leading the Bruins to a 27-11 record. Simmons committed to TCU on Oct. 11 over Texas A&M, Grand Canyon and Louisiana Tech among others. With four senior guards potentially departing Simmons could compete for early playing time.

David Punch

A 6-7 forward from Harker Heights, Punch is regarded as a top-100 prospect. The four-star is ranked the No. 93 player overall and a top five player in Texas. Punch is another player that fits the mold of what Dixon is looking for in his forwards.

He’s capable of knocking down a 3, but does most of his work inside by attacking the offensive glass and finishing through contact. According to Brandon Jenkins of 247 Punch is a player “who does not try to do anything out of his comfort zone and the strengths he brings to the table effortlessly translates.”

At Harker Heights, Punch was voted Co-MVP of the district and the Knights finished ranked top 10 in the state of Texas. Punch committed to the Horned Frogs on Oct. 21 over offers from Penn State, North Carolina State and Xavier.

Malick Diallo

A 6-10 center, Diallo is ranked the No. 126 prospect nationally and the No. 26 center in his class. Originally from the African nation of Mali, Diallo moved to America before his freshman year of high school.

Now he stars at Wasatch Academy in Utah, one of the premier basketball prep schools in the country. Miami, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and BYU were all after the defensive-minded center. In 2022 Diallo played for Mali in the U17 World Cup and averaged a double-double with 13.1 points and 12.4 rebounds per game against the best competition in the world.

Micah Robinson

A 6-6 small forward, Robinson is the highest-ranked recruit in the class and he’s also one of the highest-rated recruits to commit to TCU in program history.

Originally from Dallas, Robinson is one of the best players at the prestigious Oak Hill Academy. In his most recent outing Robinson scored 22 points and added 10 assists while leading Oak Hill to a big win over Aim High Academy.

On the season he’s averaging 14.7 points and 5.7 assists. His ability to score and create for others is one reason he’s ranked the No. 83 prospect and the fifth best recruit playing in Virginia. Robinson is currently the third highest ranked recruit to sign with TCU dating back to 2003.
