A TCU football commit is the 2023 Fort Worth-Area Preseason Offensive Player of the Year

The preseason honors for the Aledo Bearcats keep rolling in.

Senior quarterback and TCU commit Hauss Hejny is the Star-Telegram’s 2023 Fort Worth-Area Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

Hejny led the Bearcats to a Class 5A-D1 State Championship last season, recording 2,094 passing yards and 1,276 rushing yards. Hejny, an elite dual threat, passed for 20 touchdowns and rushed for 15 more.

A four-star recruit, Hejny is 247Sports’ No. 12 quarterback in the nation.

He said he wants to be sharper in his senior season and is looking to improve his completion percentage. He’ll continue to use his legs when he can.

“I just want to be the best quarterback I can be and best facilitator of the ball I can be for my team to help us be successful,” Hejny said.

A dream to be a Horned Frog

Hejny has been a fan of Horned Frog athletics his entire life.

His parents, Jesse and JimAnne Hejny, were student-athletes at TCU. His father was on the football team while his mother played basketball and ran track.

“I had no choice,” Hejny said with a smile.

Hejny said his family has always lived around the Fort Worth area.

“I grew up going to my mom’s TCU basketball games, going to TCU football games and all those sporting events at TCU,” Hejny said.

Hejny said his parents are his role models. He mentioned his father played a pivotal role in guiding him in football while setting him up for success.

“He’s made sure to keep my focus narrow on what’s important in your life, which is faith, family, academics, football and just being a good person to other people,” Hejny said. “He’s just kept my head on straight.”

Hejny said attending TCU and playing football at Amon G. Carter Stadium has been a lifelong dream. On April 6, he commit to the TCU Horned Frogs and head coach Sonny Dykes.

Now, he gets a chance to foresee a future in purple.

“I can’t even express how excited I am,” Hejny said. “It’s been exciting my whole life just working towards this dream of mine.”

Before Hejny gets to TCU’s campus, he has some unfinished business to complete with Aledo football.

The Aledo Bearcat way

Hejny said the returning starters have created a strong trust within the team and mentioned it’ll allow the Bearcats to play with more confidence and speed.

“We got a good band of brothers that have experience playing together,” Hejny said. “It’s been good to be able to enjoy this last senior season with all my best friends.”

Aledo has high standards, and Hejny said the goal is the same every year: win the state championship. Hejny said the team is not complacent after last year’s championship season.

“We have to have a chip on our shoulder,” Hejny said. “Still trying to prove ourselves. We’re still here and we’re still going to be a championship contending team.”

The Bearcats underwent a coaching transition after the retirement of legendary head coach Tim Buchanan. Longtime offensive coordinator Robby Jones was promoted to head coach, and Hejny said there have been minimal changes, calling the transition smooth.

“He knows the Aledo way and he knows the standard,” Hejny said.

On Friday, Hejny and linebacker Davhon Keys, the 2023 Fort Worth-Area Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, will start the last chapter their high school careers as Aledo takes on Dallas Parish Episcopal at Bearcat Stadium.

The contest, which starts at 8 p.m. CT, is the Star-Telegram’s No. 1 game to watch.
