Teacher Appreciation Week deals in El Paso area

It's an equation that can't be disproved. Teaching is not easy. And therefore, teachers need to be appreciated.

Whether they teach at an elementary, middle school, high school or even college, teachers generally need a break ‒ and more than the 30-minute one they may get during school.

Former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt began the effort to create Teacher Appreciation Week and National Teachers Day when she told Congress in 1953 of the need for a day recognizing teachers, according to USA TODAY.

National Teachers Day was initially celebrated March 7, but in 1984 was moved to May.

When is Teacher Appreciation Week?

Now, May 8-12 is Teacher Appreciation Week around the country. That means students' parents have time to get a thank-you gift for the teacher who takes extra time with their kid or does a great job keeping their child interested in learning.

Teachers themselves can take note of some special deals this week to give themselves a little pat on the back.

In El Paso, here are some ways for teachers to be recognized.

Harmony Public Schools is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week by announcing that campuses will have early release Fridays for all full-time campus and district staff for the 2023-24 school year.

"Teachers are the heart of Harmony,” CEO Fatih Ay said in a release. “So, we are as excited to offer to them this new perk as we believe they will be to receive it.
