I-Team: Emergency repairs at hazardous rail crossing

BROOK PARK, Ohio (WJW) — The Fox 8 I-Team has found that emergency repairs were made at a busy local rail crossing, a trouble spot for a very long time.

Officials in Brook Park said they were told emergency repairs had to be done right away. Friday, the I-Team saw evidence of some repairs on Engle Road under the Snow Road bridge.

Since last year, the I-Team has found that inspectors have been concerned about conditions at a rail crossing in that area, writing it up and ordering repairs multiple times

Recently, the city said the CSX company moved supplies there expecting to start major repairs soon.

The City Service Director said the company just made emergency repairs involving the rails with more work to be done.

Service Director Brian Beyer said, “I do have to say that you can see a difference in the crossing. And, I know that the residents have actually called and said, ‘Thank you’, and that they’ve seen a difference. It’s a start.”

Crossings get inspected by the State, but only a federal agency can force a company to make repairs.

City leaders in Brook Park expect the full job to be done in April.
