Our new team member 'Jenny' gives a voice to our stories
Dear FLORIDA TODAY Subscribers,
We’re always trying to give you new options on how to enjoy our content and the latest application is strictly for subscribers.
I’d like to introduce you to our newest team member, Jenny.
No, not the playmate and love interest of Forrest Gump. She’s our new automated AI. But like the fictional character from the Academy Award winning film, “Jenny” and our content go together like “peas and carrots.”
If you haven’t noticed yet, at the top of any of our subscriber exclusive stories, you’ll find a button just below the reporters byline that says “Hear this story.”
Clicking the button triggers Jenny, who will read you the headline, the reporter’s name and the full story. Now this is new technology and we’re pretty sure that Jenny isn’t acquainted with all the nuances that make Brevard… well, Brevard. But we’re working to improve her.
I’ve enjoyed playing with the system over the past week or so. Jenny has a lovely voice and it’s a great way for me to take in the news with our website in the background while I’m completing other tasks.
So far Jenny and the audio application are only available to desktop users, but knowing our developers, it won’t be long before that function is available through our mobile app and mobile web as well.
