Team USA made history this week by winning a record seventh straight gold medal at the World Championship.

Simone Biles led the Americans at the team event in Antwerp, Belgium, dazzling the competition during her first appearance at an international event since withdrawing from the Olympics in 2021. Brazil placed second to win the team’s first-ever medal at Worlds, and France took the bronze, marking the country’s first team medal in 75 years, The Sporting News reported.

The win earned Biles her 20th World Championship gold medal, one in which her “impressive floor routine ensured the U.S. won,” according to CNN.

Biles’ teammates who helped win the medal include Skye Blakey, Shilese Jones, Joscelyn Roberson and Leanne Wong competing in the team final, per CNN. Roberson suffered an ankle injury during warmups and was replaced in the vault and floor by Wong, who “had originally not been expected to compete” in those events.

“We had an incredible night. I’m just so proud of this team,” Wong told “Good Morning America.” “I know it wasn’t easy, but we fought through every event, every skill and every routine — winning the seven straight gold medal is pretty impressive.”

During the event, Biles completed a Yurchenko double pike vault, making her the first woman in history to do so at an international competition, therefore getting the challenging vault named for her, per Deseret News.

Biles also earned the title of “most decorated female gymnast in history,” with a grand total of 33 medals, Good Morning America reported.
