Team USA Softball Improves to 2-0, Mexico Men's Soccer Routs France | What You Missed
Day 2 of the 2020 Tokyo Games is nearly in the books, and we've got Jared Quay highlighting everything you might have missed overnight, including Team USA Softball's shutout win vs. Canada, and Mexico's convincing victory over France in Men's Soccer.

JARED QUAY: Good morning, America. Day two events at the Tokyo games is almost in the books. And while Team USA wasn't very active, there was plenty of excitement to go around. Let's take you through what you may have missed while you were asleep.
Team USA's lone event overnight came on the softball diamond against Canada. Veteran pitcher Monica Abbott got the start and the finish in the game as she pushed a seven inning complete game shutout of the Canadian, striking out nine and given up only one hit along the way. Haylie McCleney scored the game's only run courtesy of an RBI single by Amanda Chidester. And Team USA came away with the 1-0 victory and moved to 2-0 so far in Tokyo.
The stars and stripes look to stay unbeaten on Saturday against Mexico. Speaking of Mexico, the Mexican softball team was in action as well against the host team Japan. Unfortunately for the Mexicans, Japan had no intentions of being gracious hosts on the diamond. In the Olympics first extra innings game, Japan came away with the walk off win on a bunt single from Mana Atsumi to score Eri Yamada and move the Japanese to 2-0 on the tournament. Yep, a walk off bunt. Hey, all runs count the same. Doesn't have to be pretty.
Over to the football pitch. The most anticipated match of the day between team Mexico and team France turned into an absolute route. The match went into halves, tied at 0-0, but Mexico turned on the jets in the second half. Alexis Vega got the scoring started on a header off a beautiful cross from Diego Lainez in the 47th minute.
From there, Mexico put three more pass to French keeper en route to a 4-1 victory. France's lone goal came from Andre-Pierre Gignac at the penalty spot in the 69th minute. Other results from the pitch around Japan include a nill-nill draw between Spain and Egypt, a 1-0 win for New Zealand over South Korea, and a 2-1 win for Ivory Coast over Saudi Arabia.
And while there wasn't too much action in the first two days, that's all about to change. The Tokyo 2020 opening ceremonies take place tomorrow. And from there, it's off to the races with hundreds of events every day.
