Tear Gas Deployed as Riot Declared in Downtown Portland

Federal officers continued to use tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets on protesters in Portland, Oregon, as police declared a riot in the early morning of July 23.

Demonstrators have gathered every night for eight weeks in downtown Portland to call for police reforms.

Oregon Live reported that Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler attended the protest and was also teargassed. His attendance attracted attention and jeers from a crowd of more than 2,000 people.
