The Kansas City Symphony is teaming up with local icon and hip-hop artist Tech N9ne for a special performance May 4 at the Midland Theatre.

The two are bringing “a night of music unlike any other,” according to a social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The symphony approached Tech N9ne, co-founder of the Strange Music record label, with the idea first, according to Jeff Barker, the vice president of sales and marketing with the Kansas City Symphony. He said it was based on the fact that Tech attends their classical series concerts.

The symphony will be providing the music behind some of Tech’s most iconic tracks, like “Caribou Lou,” “Hood Go Crazy” and “Worldwide Choppers.” The artist also shared some excitement for a few other songs on the set list.

“’Aw Yeah? (Intervention),’ ‘Blackened The Sun’ and ‘Come Gangsta’ because I’m so excited to hear those with the symphony,” Tech said.

Tech N9ne, real name Aaron Yates, follows a list of hip-hop artists who have performed with a live orchestra, such as Nas, Jay-Z, The Roots, Jeezy, Pharrell Williams and most recently, producer Metro Boomin.

In November, Tech became the first hip-hop artist to flip the Country Club Plaza lights on for Thanksgiving. Other Kansas City celebrities who have flipped the switch include Heidi Gardner, Jason Sudeikis, Paul Rudd, Kate Spade and Mayor Sly James.

Tech has performed all over the world and has songs with the likes of The Doors, Eminem and Boyz II Men. His biggest song “Face Off,” features movie star and former professional wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Wednesday and range between $59-109. Tickets are limited to six per buyer and will be issued by mail or will call. No digital or email tickets will be issued, according to the Kansas City Symphony.

Tickets bought will be mailed in early April, so you should provide an accurate and complete home address when you check out.
