Tech tennis teams split on ITA Kickoff Weekend

Texas Tech tennis teams both won on Saturday and lost on Sunday in ITA Kickoff Weekend matches.

In Norman, Oklahoma, the Tech women beat Tulsa 4-2 on Saturday and lost 4-0 on Sunday to No. 17 Oklahoma, the host of the four-team bracket.

In Fort Worth, the Tech men beat Utah 4-3 on Saturday and lost 4-0 on Sunday to No. 3 TCU, also a host.

In its match against Tulsa, Tech took the best-of-three doubles point with wins by the teams of Camryn Stepp-Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Cristina Tiglea-Olivia Peet and added singles victories from Tiglea, Dmitrichenko and Avelina Sayfetdinova.

Oklahoma (5-2) got wins from Dana Guzman in both doubles and singles on Sunday to lead the shutout of Tech (4-1).

In the Tech men's victory against Utah, the teams of Olle Wallin-Tyler Stewart and Reed Collier-Dimitrios Azoidis nailed down the doubles point. The Red Raiders' Stewart, Franco Ribero and Lorenzo Esquici won the Nos. 5, 4 and 6 singles matches.

On Sunday, Tech (2-3) dropped the doubles point, though Piotr Pawlak and Ribero won their match. TCU (5-0) got wins on the top three singles courts from Jake Fearnley, Sander Jong and Luc Fomba.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Texas Tech senior Ludvig Aberg bogeyed three of his last seven holes to finish 3-over 75 in Sunday's third round of the Dubai Desert Classic.

Aberg is 3 under par going into Monday's final round at Emirates Golf Club. Rory McIlroy, who carded a 65 on Sunday, is 15-under with a three-stroke lead over Callum Shinkwin and Dan Bradbury.

Aberg shot 65-73 in the first two rounds. He was the 18-hole co-leader after his 7-under round. The final-round tee time for the 23-year-old Swede is scheduled for 10:55 p.m. CST Sunday.
