PALM CITY, Fla. — Texas Tech senior Ludvig Aberg won his sixth college career tournament title Tuesday, this time shooting a 1-under-par 70 in the final round to take the Valspar Collegiate by one stroke.

Aberg finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 11-under, one shot better than North Carolina's David Ford and Georgia Southern's Ben Carr, both of whom closed with 68s. Texas' Brian Stark (65), Arizona State's Preston Summerhays (66) and Ohio State's Maxwell Moldovan (68) all finished two behind Aberg at 9-under.

Aberg survived a rocky final nine in which he made double-bogey 6 on No. 11 and triple-bogey 7 on No. 18. In between, he made eagle-3 on No. 13.

He took a three-stroke lead into the final round and birdied four of the last five holes on the front nine for a 4-under 31.

Tech finished second in the team standings, shooting 21-under and six back of No. 4 North Carolina. Behind the top two teams were No. 10 Texas at 15-under and Ohio State and No. 7 Florida State at 13-under.

Tech's Tyran Snyders (72-64-71) tied for ninth in the 88-player field at 6-under, and Calum Scott (68-69-73) tied for 20th at 3-under. Also playing for the Red Raiders were Matthew Comegys (72-73-69) and Jack Wall (72-78-71).

Tech track & field

Texas Tech has one of its biggest meets of the outdoor season this week as the Red Raiders compete from Wednesday through Saturday at the 95th Texas Relays in Austin.

Joe Keys, a top transfer from Marquette, will be the first of the Red Raiders competing when he begins competition Wednesday in the decathlon. Keys was a second-team all-American at the 2021 NCAA outdoor and the 2022 NCAA indoor championships and won one Big East Conference title apiece in the decathlon and the heptathlon. He's a fifth-year senior from Downers Grove (Ill.) North.

Several Tech athletes who competed at the NCAA indoor championships are scheduled to make their outdoor debuts this week. NCAA 60-meters champion Terrence Jones is entered in the 200 meters and with the 400-meter relay.

NCAA runners-up Zach Bradford in the pole vault and Caleb Dean in the 60-meter hurdles also are scheduled to compete. Dean qualified for the NCAA outdoor meet in the 400-meter hurdles each of the past two years for Maryland and will compete in that event for the first time for the Red Raiders.

Bradford won the pole vault in last weekend's Masked Rider Open, clearing 18 feet, 8 1/4 inches, but the event was moved indoors to the Sports Performance Center because of high wind.

Tech baseball

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — For the third straight game, the Red Raiders suffered a loss in walk-off fashion.

Despite holding a two-run advantage after the top of the seventh, Texas Tech endured its fourth straight loss as New Mexico's Jake Holland hit a walk-off, solo home run to cap off an 11-10 victory.

With the loss, the Red Raiders (18-8) will look to snap their skid when hosting TCU for a three-game Big 12 Conference set — beginning with a 6:30 p.m. Friday contest at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

Kevin Bazzell went 5-for-5 and drove in a team-best four RBI in the loss. Owen Washburn drove in two runs, while Austin Green, Hudson White, Tracer Lopez and Jeric Curtis each had one RBI.

Holland went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs, including the game-winner on his home-run swing for the Lobos (15-8), who have won their last three games.

Tech relief pitcher Derek Bridges made his first appearance of the season. The left-handed hurler missed the first 25 games as he recovered from an arm problem.
