Texas Tech defensive lineman Nelson Mbanasor and quarterback Maverick McIvor have had their names entered into the NCAA transfer portal, the Rivals and 247Sports recruiting services reported Tuesday.

Mbanasor, who has one year of eligibility remaining, was a regular in the Red Raiders' defensive line rotation this season before he suffered a season-ending pectoral muscle injury late in the year. In nine games, he was credited with 11 tackles, 1 1/2 tackles for loss, two quarterback pressures and a pass breakup.

Mbanasor played in 21 games over his redshirt freshman and sophomore seasons, getting credit for nine tackles in 2018 and 15 tackles in 2019. In 2020, he played in only the season opener before he suffered a season-ending biceps injury.

McIvor, though highly rated as a recruit, never got into a game during three seasons with the Red Raiders. He has three years of eligibility with the NCAA not charging any player a year of eligibility for the COVID-disrupted 2020 season.

Mbanasor is the fifth senior from Tech's 2021 roster to leave the program with one year of eligibility remaining. Center Dawson Deaton and kicker Jonathan Garibay have declared for the NFL draft, quarterback Henry Colombi had his name entered into the transfer portal and inside receiver Dalton Rigdon is beginning career pursuits outside of football.
