Tecumseh boys golf wins Clinton Invite

SALINE — The Tecumseh boys golf team took first at a rain-shortened Clinton Invitation Saturday at Rustic Glen.

Tecumseh shot a season-best 331, but only the first 13 holes counted according to MHSAA rules to rain-shortened events.

Joe Nowak was the Division 2 medalist as he led Tecumseh with a 76 while Aldo Barba shot an 80, Grant Simpson shot an 86 and Garis Waynick and Blake LaJiness each shot 89.

The Maples took second place led by Carson Ritz and Cayden Staib as the duo were on pace for a big day before the rain cut short the round.

Madison won the Division 3/4 meet with a score of 348 with Cameron Bozyk shooting a 73, breaking an 18-hole tournament record for the Trojans. Mykola Dowhaniu also had a big day as he shot a hole-in-one on No. 10.

Host Clinton took fourth on the day.

BASEBALL

Adrian at Blissfield (DH): At Blissfield, the Maples and Royals split non-league games as Adrian won Game 1, 6-3, before Blissfield won Game 2, 3-2.

Gunner Lansdell was strong on the mound for Adrian in Game 1 as he struck out three.

In Game 2, Adrian loaded the bases in the seventh, but was unable to tie the game as Blissfield got out of the jam.

Joelden Griffin hit a double while Tristan Hayes went 2-for-3.

Columbia Central at Clinton (DH): At Clinton, the Redwolves posted a comeback as they finished a makeup Lenawee County Athletic Association game against Columbia Central, winning 8-7 and 16-6.

Clinton began the first game trailing 5-3, but rallied to remain in the hunt for the LCAA title. Ryan Tschirhart got the win and hit a home run. Game 2 was a non-conference game where Ben Kennedy got the win.

Hudson 12, Marshall 6: At Hudson, the Tigers won a non-league game before the second game of a doubleheader was rained out.

Ambrose Horwath went four innings and gave up five runs, on seven hits, four walks and three strikeouts. He also went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Ethan Harris went 2-for-4 with a double and five RBIs while Anthony Arredondo went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Morenci at Sand Creek Invite: At Sand Creek, both the Aggies and Bulldogs lost to Union City, but were unable to finish the game against one another.

Sand Creek lost 11-1 as George Hillard went five innings and gave up one earned run and struck out five.

Morenci was held hitless while Parker Dunn went 2 1/3 innings and struck out two.

SOFTBALL

Clinton 15, Haslett 1: At Chelsea, the Redwolves had three games scheduled, but only got one in as they won by a mercy against Haslett in five innings.

Kendall Phillip got the win as she gave up one run, on one hit and striking out four in two innings. Taryn Hernandez tossed the final three hitless innings, allowing a walk while striking out six.

Emma Fair went 3-for-5 with four RBIs while Hernandez was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Ava Ormsby went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Noelle Riley hit an RBI triple.

Morenci at Sand Creek Invite: At Sand Creek, both the Bulldogs and Aggies fell to Riverview Gabriel Richard while Sand Creek topped Morenci with an 8-2 lead after four innings when rain ended the game.

Kylie Serin tossed four innings and gave up one earned run against the Bulldogs and struck out two. She added two hits, including a double, with two RBIs.

Emma Hildebrand had two hits with a double and an RBI while Jerzie Robison had two hits and Jersey Still and Lauren Keller each had a double and an RBI.

Sand Creek lost to Gabriel Richard, 4-1, as Keller gave up one earned run, on seven hits and struck out five.

Serin had two hits, including a triple, and scored a run while Still hit a double.

Morenci lost to Gabriel Richard, 12-6, with Bekah Shoemaker recoding two hits.

TRACK AND FIELD

Blissfield, Morenci, Sand Creek, Tecumseh at Jack Beilfuss Invite: At Hillsdale, not all the events were able to be finished as the Jack Belufss Invite, hosted by Hillsdale, was cut short due to thunderstorms.

Blissfield girls Annabelle Smith was able to get two wins in as she took the 100-meter dash (12.79) and the long jump (17-feet-00.25-inches).

Tecumseh's Jordyn Wright also won the pole vault (10-6).

Sand Creek's Emily Carbajal took second in the discus (106-10) to lead the Aggies while Morenci was led by Clarissa Berger's third-place throw in the discus (101-4).

The Tecumseh boys won the 4x200 (1:32.26).
