Tecumseh District Library program aims to help with managing digital photos

TECUMSEH — These days, the more advanced technology gets, the better and easier it is for people to capture images of everyday life.

Smartphones, tablets, cameras and other devices practically all have photo-taking capabilities, which means there are a lot of ways to take and store digital photos. But how do people end up managing, saving and sharing these pictures?

Some of the ways people are able to manage their digital images will be discussed during an upcoming program next week with the Tecumseh District Library, 215 N. Ottawa St. “Managing Digital Images: Finding, Saving, Sharing and Organizing the Pictures of Your Life” will be presented virtually from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The online program requires registration so that the library can send viewers the program link. To register, contact the library at 517-423-2238 or visit www.tecumsehlibrary.org. Tuesday’s presentation will also be streamed live on the Tecumseh District Library Facebook page. Viewing the program on Facebook does not require preregistering with the library. There is no cost.

Corey Seeman, director of Kresge Library Services at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, will lead the presentation. Seeman is an avid photographer, a news release from the library said, and his work is shared on the image and video hosting service, Flickr. He has more than 655,000 photos posted to social media.

“In particular, he is an avid photographer of the campus squirrels at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor,” the release said.

Seeman’s Flickr account also states he is interested in lighthouses, cats, birds, nature preserves, dance, music and “anything else you can bring a camera to.”

Additional photo sharing services that will be highlighted during the presentation include Google, Apple and Facebook, among others. Participants will learn from Seeman how to organize, back up and share pictures, and they will also find out how images are found by others people by using tags or search terms.

“This could be the perfect session if you want to do something with all those pictures on your phone or clogging up your SD card,” the release said.
