"Tecumseh Middle School is one of 212 middle schools across the U.S. to receive this honor for providing broad access to transformative learning experiences for students through PLTW Gateway," Tecumseh Public Schools curriculum director Meghan Way said.

Tecumseh holds five of the 27 K-5 distinguished PLTW Launch programs in Michigan.

PLTW is a STEM- and career-based program that focuses on engineering and science practices. It is a nonprofit organization that serves millions of pre-K-12 students and teachers in schools across the U.S.

The PLTW Distinguished School recognition honors schools committed to increasing student access, engagement and achievement in their PLTW programs.

To be eligible for the designation, schools meet a variety of criteria such as a certain percentage of the student body participating in PLTW programs, participating in two or more units during their time at school, offering at least one PLTW unit at each grade level and having strategies in place to ensure equitable access to students.

Tecumseh Public Schools offers PLTW for all students in kindergarten through sixth grade and as an elective option for students in seventh and eighth grades. Topics include flight and space, automation and robotics, green architecture, coding and the power of electrons, Way said.
