Tecumseh schools partnering with website, nonprofit on mental health resources

TECUMSEH — Tecumseh Public Schools is partnering with the Pleasant Grove, Utah-based Cook Center for Human Connection and ParentGuidance.org to provide mental health resources to families, according to a news release from the district.

The Cook Center for Human Connection is a nonprofit foundation committed to preventing suicide, improving mental health support and encouraging human connections.

ParentGuidance.org is a mental health resource available to parents at no cost. This website provides parents with a resource where they can find answers, support and help for their children’s mental health, the release said.

The website is backed by therapists and contains more than 50 on-demand e-courses for parents, led by licensed therapists on topics such as living with a child with depression and identifying anxiety as well as coping with grief and loss, among other topics.

On the website parents will find the “Ask A Therapist” option where they can submit questions anonymously to be answered by licensed therapists and posted on the website on the “Ask A Therapist” page as part of the library of frequently asked questions. These no-cost resources are made available through a grant from the Cook Center for Human Connection.

Tecumseh Public Schools also recently received a state grant in the amount of $292,522 which it is using to fund a new behavior consultant position as well as its its partnerships with ParentGuidance.org and the Cook Center for Human Connection.

To explore the parent guidance resources, parent can go to ParentGuidance.org and join free.

In addition to offering these free resources, Tecumseh Public Schools is providing 12 mental health online webinars; two events this spring and 10 next school year. These are meant to be opportunities for parents to help support their child and their child’s mental health needs, the release said.

The first online event, which uses the Zoom video conferencing service, will take place 7 to 8 p.m. April 25 from for parents to learn more about "Social Media - Protecting Your Child." Parents can register now at cookcenter.info/TecumsehApril25.
