'Ted Lasso' Fans Are Going to Be Very Upset Over This Heartbreaking Season 3 Update

Dani Rojas said it best: "Futbol is life!" His offscreen counterpart Cristo Fernández also understands the eagerness for Ted Lasso season 3, and to our chagrin, he just revealed we'll have to ride the bench a bit longer.
The real-life former pro footballer plays the charming and gifted soccer player in the hit Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso starring former SNL frontman Jason Sudeikis. Though we expected the comedy series' season 3 to premiere this summer, it turns out the show will more likely arrive at the end of 2022.
Now, don't despair just yet. "We've been shooting for the last two months, things are going well, and I'm hopeful," Cristo told PopCulture. "Hopefully, the fans will love our Season 3, which, hopefully, will be at the end of the year as well, out."
The ensemble returned to London in early March to get the ball rolling on the third season. "We're very excited to be back on set and, thankfully, these times are different than last year, as in COVID-wise," Cristo told the outlet. "Last year, we were shooting in the middle of lockdown but at least now the city has reopened. I'm just really amazed of how talented the writers are in the show. The scripts are so good."
As for what folks can expect to see, the former athlete teased that soccer fans will be delighted to see more action on the field. "I'm really happy and excited there's going to be lots of football this season, so for all the football fans out there, lots of football," he said. "There's [also] really important key moments [with] all of our characters, so I think this season three, it's going to have a really good."
Season 2's finale revealed some big changes for a few major players, specifically as we saw a villain arc brewing for Nate (Nick Mohammed) who leaves AFC Richmond after blowing up at Ted for feeling neglected. Keely (Juno Temple) essentially broke up with Roy (Brett Goldstein) and decided to leave the team to start her own PR firm, while there's also Ted’s ongoing struggle with panic attacks.
Though showrunners are keeping the playbook close to their chests, producer Kip Kroeger let it slip that season 3 could jump back in time, showing the origin stories of a few characters. “It’s deeper into the backstories,” Kip spilled to Deadline. “You know, we’re going to get a little more information about where they came from.”
“And knowing those guys there’s bound to be a bunch of surprises, things you didn’t see coming, some curveballs in there,” producer and director Declan Lowney added.
