Teddy bears tossed on ice during SCSU hockey game collected for Toys for Tots

St. Cloud State and Mayo Clinic Ambulance workers load dozens of donated teddy bears into an ambulance Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. The bears were collected from fans during the Teddy Bear Toss in the first intermission of Saturday's hockey game. They were transported to Catholic Charities for use in the Toys for Tots program.

ST. CLOUD — Dozens of stuffed toys filled the ice at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center Saturday night during the first intermission of the men's hockey game against North Dakota.

On Wednesday those toys were transported via Mayo Clinic Ambulance to Catholic Charities for distribution to area children in the Toys for Tots campaign.

Bags and boxes filled with stuffed animals of all sizes, shapes and colors filled the ambulance almost to the brim.

Another Teddy Bear Toss is planned for Saturday during halftime of the women's basketball game starting at Halenbeck Hall at 5:30 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to bring new and gently used stuffed toys for the Teddy Bear Toss event. This is the 12th year of the toss in St. Cloud.

Fans who bring a teddy bear will receive a free ticket voucher for future games.
