Teen arrested after shooting at coach outside Pacers Athletic Center, police say

Update: The 17-year-old accused of shooting at a basketball coach outside the Pacers Athletic Center has been identified as Elijah Earl. He has been charged as an adult, according to the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

A teenager has been arrested after officials say he shot at a basketball coach’s vehicle Sunday outside the Pacers Athletic Center, according to Westfield police.

Elijah Earl, a 17-year-old from Indianapolis, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, criminal recklessness and pointing a firearm, four counts of criminal mischief, unlawful carrying of a handgun and dangerous possession of a firearm.

According to police, the shooting unfolded about 6:30 p.m. Sunday after an altercation erupted following a basketball game inside the facility at 200 E 186th St.

Police said the teen followed a coach outside the building toward their vehicle and was yelling. The teen then fired three rounds toward the coach’s vehicle as the coach left the lot. Four other cars were damaged during the incident. No one was injured in the shooting.

On Wednesday, Westfield police announced the arrest of the 17-year-old, who was not identified.

The Pacers Athletic Center is located at Grand Park and is a hub for youth sports training, leagues and tournaments.
